Following the resignation of Sunday Oliseh as Eagles
chief coach, the Nigeria Football Federation is tinkering
with the idea of a consortium of coaches to lead the
Eagles in next month's all important Nations Cup qualifier
against Egypt in Kaduna.
Oliseh abandoned the Eagles job early morning Saturday
when he cited unpaid salaries for him and his crew as
well as the sacking of his aide, former international, Tijani
Babangida as reasons.
A shocked NFF whose President, Amaju Pinnick, first vice,
Seyi Akinwunmi and scribe Sanusi Mohammed are all in
Zurich for world soccer governing body, FIFA's election
were stunned by Oliseh's resignation.
But we gathered that the soccer house had reached out
to Director of Sports Development and former coach of
the Eagles, Amodu Shuaibu, Jay Jay Okocha and Oliseh's
assistant Salisu to take over on interim basis to prepare
the Eagles for the match against Egypt in Kaduna.
Our dependable source said that the NFF had to beckon
on Okocha to be on the bench because of the respect the
Eagles have for him.
"We all know Amodu and his many times of coming to
rescue the Eagles. But, Okocha is one person we surely
need because of his pedigree and respect he commands
from the Eagles and internationally", the source said.
"Let's not talk about Oliseh's resignation for now. What is
important to us now is to see that we beat Egypt and
qualify for the Nations. After that we can talk about
Oliseh".
