A 40-year-old man by the name Blessing Obazuwa is to spend
the next 18 months in prison custody for stealing a 500 KVA stabiliser
valued at N35,000.
Obazuwa who was recently released from prison after serving a
two-year jail term for a similar offence pleaded guilty to the offense.
The police prosecutor Inspector Violet Soyemi said the accused person
committed the crime on June 28 of this year at the residence of one Mr
David Osaghae which is located at 21, Nova Road, Ugbowo, Benin, the Edo
state capital.
Soyemi told the Court that Obazuwa was armed with a knife with an
intent to commit felony. The police prosecutor said he confessed to the
crime when he was arrested. Inspector Soyemi added that the offence
contravened sections 390(9) and 417(G) of the Criminal Code.
The Magistrate was one Mrs Esther Aimofumhe of Evboriaria Magistrate
Court in Benin. Aimofumhe said it was obvious Obazuwa was not ready to
change his life style.
She therefore sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option
of N50, 000 fine in count 1 and one year imprisonment in count 2 with
an option of N50, 000 fine as well.
Apart from petty thieves who steal things like stabilisers, some people use tricycles to also commit crime.
