8 Reasons Why Davido’s New Artiste “Mayorkun” Is Not A Fluke

There have been series of
views for music critics and
professionals that one of the
new HKN/DMW act his a fluke
after his track has been
making massive waves, but
these are reasons I believe he
isn’t:
1. Signed From Nowhere
Early February, just like any
other upcoming artist
MayorKun uploaded a short
video of him singing David ft
Olamide – The Money, while
he was playing the keyboard
on Instagram. Who could have
thought this could get him
signed? Before the post gained
Davido’s attention after his
friends kept on tagging the
OBO. He was just a regular
underpaid banker.
2. He’s Got Talent
After he got Davido’s
attention, Davido then tweeted
about him and some other guy
‘Dapo’. But fortunately only
him got signed after they were
both screened by the HKN
Gang. In a recent interview,
he mentioned he has been
writing songs since he was
eight years old. And that’s
TALENT!
3. Good Production
‘Don’t get it twisted its Puffy
Tee on the beat’. Good music
takes good production! Puffy
Tee is a legend in the Nigeria
music industry, he is well
known for producing hit
tracks for the likes of Olu
Maintain, Eedris
Abdulkareem, JJC, Oritshe
Femi, to mention a few. Let’s
not forget the touch of the
unpopular baddest mixer in
town, Sukasoundzzzzz
4. Davido’s Influence
From day 1, Davido has been
in one way or the other
promoting the boy before he
even dropped a track, from
snapchat diaries to twitter
rants. He event went as far as
threatening to pull a ‘Kanye’
if his new act does not win
the controversial ‘Next rated
award’ at Headies! Let’s wait
till then. Baddest!!
5. His Mum’s Support
We all know the popular
Nollywood actress, Toyin
Adewale. Its hard to see
African parents support their
children to venture into the
entertainment industry. But
she was always there for her
son.
Lets not forget she took to her
Instagram page to thank
Davido for acknowledging her
son’s talent, which we believe
is also factor that facilitated
his signing to HKN/DMW. She
also went as far as posing
with ‘Eko’ on her birthday
photoshoots tagging it ‘Iya
Eleko’. Ori Iyamiii Elekoo …
This is very rare in the music
industry!
6. Proper Promotion
Good music is not just what it
takes to blow! You also need a
proper promotion plan to get
your music out there, this was
not difficult for the young lad
as Davido already had
everything covered. The next
morning ‘Eleko’ dropped,
Davido took his boy on a
radio tour. There were rumors
his views was bought, bought
or not it all leads to money
well spent and good
promotion.
7. Shows On Shows
Even if views were bought,
even if OAPs were paid….
Mayorkun has been killing
shows from Club to Club,
Schools to Schools, States to
States! And him and the label
are making their money. So
why you carry carry fire fire
for head?
8. Awards
Just four months after making
his debut into the music
industry, Mayorkun already
has two awards on his cabinet
to show case. Winning the
“Most Promising Act” at City
people awards and “New Song
of the Year ” at Nigerian Teen
Choice Awards.
Fluke or not, only time can
tell…
